It has been almost three decades since Embraced by the Light by Betty J. Eadie was first published (in 1992). But for anyone interested in spiritual development or near-death experiences, some books are timeless — this is one of those books.
It has the subheading on the front (at least the edition I have, pictured) of “The Most Profound and Complete Near-Death Experience Ever.” And it lives up to those expectations.
The beginning, of course, talks about the circumstances of Eadie’s death and how the near-death experience started.
Reading the book is an experience in itself. So instead of giving away a bunch of spoilers, here are a few ideas from the book that show it’s worth your while.
There’s No Need to Judge Other Beliefs
At one point Eadie says, “Each of us, I was told, is at a different levels of spiritual development and understanding….All religions upon the earth are necessary because there are people who need what they teach.”
Obviously, people can twist religious ideals for their own reasons. But remember that people can twist anything, whether it’s religion, politics, global warming issues…anything. So this bit of religious understanding is priceless.
The Power of Imagination
Embraced talks about how important imagination is, in that:
Gifted people are able to use their imaginations to create new things….Some people use negative energy to create harmful things — items or words that destroy.
And of course, she talks about people using their imagination in positive ways, as well.
Einstein once said, “Imagination is more important than knowledge.” And though that’s not exactly what the book was referring to, you can still see why the power of imagination is so important. People can have all the knowledge they want — envisioning how to use your knowledge is what starts to make a difference.
The Importance of the Life Review
The author talks about her life review and mentions something really important: that she was not being judged. She says, “Their respect for me could never be lessened.”
This is obviously not an earth thing, to say the least.
These are just a few nuggets from Embraced by the Light. If you have never read it and the above resonates with you, be sure to check it out.
